VHDL-AMS Hardware Description Language:Noise Modeling

Noise Modeling

For precise modeling of the behavior of a system, noise impact must also be considered. Noise can be modeled as a kind of source quantities in VHDL-AMS named as noise source quantities. To represent a noise source, its power as well as the type of the quantity values should be identiļ¬ed. The value of a noise source quantity is zero except during noise simulation. Both kinds of source quantities, spectral and noise quantities, allow the user to specify stimulus for small-signal frequency-domain simulation. Figure 91.19 shows an example of modeling the behavior of a resistor including the effects of thermal noise.
